PLDT Data Trial
Working with the Philippines’ pioneer and leading data center service provider to reduce power consumption.
PLDT, the largest and most diversified telecommunications company in the Philippines, faced a major challenge. The Filippino Government issued directives which mandated that government agencies and state-run corporations must cut energy consumption by 10%-20%. The question was: What was the best way to comply and still meet the needs of energy-hungry data centers?

The Challenge
With the government directives, PLDT had to find a solution that would meet the requirements. At the same time, demands on data centers were growing. Rooftops were already filled with HVAC equipment to achieve the required cooling, which meant solar panels weren’t a viable options. Left with limited options, PLDT reached out to Coat Zone.
The Solution
Knowing we had to make the most out of the exisiting equipment and environment, our team recommended the Dual Coating Approach:
- ThermalBlock™ (or ThermalBlock by Coat Zone®): Our thermal barrier coating would reduce the heat load brought on by solar exposure. This help reduce HVAC cabinet temperature down and reduced the amount of conditioned air lost.
- CoilSafe®: Our proprietary thin-film, inorganic coating protects coils from fouling and corrosion. This meant HVAC equipment could run more efficiently for longer.
The Impact
- ROI: PLDT’s VITRO data center experienced a full return on investment by seven months.
- Reduced Energy Use: Based on data collected by PLDT’s in-house team, they achieved an average of 12% reduction in energy usage during warm weather months.
- Future Plans: Based on the success of this data trial, PLDT is considering a proposal to use the same Dual Coating Approach at their Parañaque data center.
