    Cool Roof Rating Council Rates ThermalBlock by Coat Zone®

    We are pleased to announce that ThermalBlock by Coat Zone®, our high-performance radiant barrier coating for rooftop HVAC systems and exposed ductwork, is now rated by the Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC). The Notification of Product Rating, issued June 10, 2026, confirms that independent, accredited laboratory testing of ThermalBlock by Coat Zone® meets the requirements of the ANSI/CRRC S100 Standard and the CRRC-1 Program Manual.

    A CRRC rating is more than a badge. The rating is a third-party verification standard that is foundational to how reflective building products are evaluated, specified, and approved for use under modern energy codes. Here is what the certification covers, what the numbers mean, and why it matters for projects where solar heat load and energy performance are part of the design conversation.

    What the Cool Roof Rating Council Does

    The CRRC is a nonprofit organization that develops fair, accurate, and credible methods for evaluating and labeling the radiative properties of roofing and exterior wall products. Its mission is to bring objective, scientific information about cool surfaces into decisions affecting heat islands, extreme heat, and energy use in the built environment.

    The CRRC requires products to be tested by CRRC-approved, ISO 17025-accredited laboratories. As an ISO 17065-accredited organization, the CRRC reviews test data and determines whether a product meets the ANSI/CRRC S100 Standard before issuing a Notification of Product Rating. CRRC publishes rated products in its Rated Roof Products Directory. Architects, code officials, and building owners can verify performance values directly in the publication.

    This distinction matters in specification work. Building codes and green building programs increasingly reference CRRC ratings directly. California’s Title 24, Part 6 energy code sets minimum requirements for thermal emittance, three-year aged solar reflectance, and Solar Reflective Index for roofing materials. The Los Angeles Green Building Code similarly requires minimum three-year aged values for residential roofing. LEED’s heat island credit pathway also references reflective roofing performance. A CRRC rating gives specifiers a verified, code-recognized data point rather than an unsubstantiated manufacturer figure.

    The Two Numbers That Matter For CRRC Rating

The three-year-aged rating is taken after the product has been weathered to simulate real-world exposure.
