California’s Title 24, Part 6 energy code sets minimum requirements for thermal emittance, three-year aged solar reflectance, and Solar Reflective Index for roofing materials. The Los Angeles Green Building Code similarly requires minimum three-year aged values for residential roofing. LEED’s heat island credit pathway also references reflective roofing performance. A CRRC rating gives specifiers a verified, code-recognized data point rather than an unsubstantiated manufacturer figure.
The Two Numbers That Matter For CRRC Rating
Every CRRC rating is built on two core measurements. Each measurement is scored on a scale from 0 to 1, where 1 represents 100% performance.
- Solar reflectance measures how much of the sun’s energy a surface reflects rather than absorbs. A higher value means less solar heat is transferred into the substrate below.
- Thermal emittance measures how efficiently a surface releases any heat it does absorb. A higher value means the surface sheds absorbed heat more quickly rather than retaining it.

The CRRC rating adds a recognized, code-referenced verification layer on top of that existing body of evidence.
